Relevance

The idea of a farm business is gaining popularity. The sales market is expanding, the number of companies that use farmers' products in their work is increasing.

Business relevance:

  • low competition;
  • growing demand for meat produced in Russia due to sanctions from the United States and Europe;
  • the ability to sell meat, eggs and other products at a low price through their own production;
  • high profitability and quick return on business;
  • raising poultry requires less time and resources than raising cattle and other beef breeds.

What breeds of geese to breed

Consider popular breeds.

  1. Kholmogory geese. Meat breed, the weight of birds reaches 10-12 kg. Prized for their versatility. They are quite highly productive (about 30 eggs per year), and at the same time they adapt well to weather conditions. The disadvantages include long ripening - up to 3 years.
  2. Large gray geese. Also beef breed. By the period of growing up, they reach 7-9 kg. Females lay up to 50 eggs per year. Goslings gain weight quickly and after 2 months weigh about 4-5 kg. They eat any food and do not need a reservoir.
  3. Emden geese. Raised as a beef breed. Geese reach 10 kg in weight, and geese 7-8 kg. Emden geese gain weight well on pastures, and with enhanced special nutrition they do it even faster. Their meat is of high quality, not too tough and lean. But the Emden geese are also distinguished by aggressive behavior and noise.
  4. Kuban geese. If the farm is going to raise geese for the sale of eggs, then it is better to choose this breed. Egg production is high, the goose can produce about 80-90 eggs per year. The geese themselves are not large, body weight is about 5-5.5 kg. A big plus is its high resistance to any weather conditions. Not all breeds can survive in cold and windy climates, but Kuban geese do well in any environment.
  5. Rhine geese. Another breed with high egg production. The goose produces about 50 eggs per year. On average, about 60-65% of eggs hatch, but further safety is 90-95%. The weight of the geese is small, on average 4-5 kg.
  6. Toulouse geese. Large geese weigh 10-12 kg, and geese weigh 7-8. Geese develop rapidly and at 2 months already weigh 4-5 kg. At this point, they can be slaughtered, getting high-quality lean meat. The fact is that Toulouse geese are inactive, therefore, with age, fat accumulates in the body and the meat becomes more fatty. These geese are also bred to obtain high quality liver. The liver of a well-fed adult goose reaches 500 grams of net weight. Disadvantages of the breed - they do not adapt well to unfavorable conditions, they do not tolerate cold and moisture, they quickly fall ill. But if you take care of the room and feed hard, the result will be very good.
  7. Italian white geese. The breed is distinguished by high-quality meat and liver, which are appreciated by lovers of delicacies. The birds themselves are medium in size, the goose weighs about 6-7 kg, and the goose about 5-6. In this case, the liver reaches 300-400 grams. The laying hen produces about 40-50 eggs per year.
  8. Danish legart. The breed is considered one of the best in the world and is highly popular. Adults weigh up to 9 kg, and they reach 6 kg already at 8-10 weeks of life. Geese are unpretentious to food and do not need intensive feeding. They eat on average 20 percent less than other breeds. Egg production is good, about 40 eggs per year. An excellent breed for growing at home.

The goose breeding business starts with the purchase of young stock and the creation of conditions for their reproduction.

Geese breeding rules

When breeding geese, it is important to follow these rules:

  1. It is better to purchase young animals from certified suppliers. At the stages of business registration, it will be necessary to obtain permits and certificates, therefore, it is better to take a certified one right away.
  2. It is undesirable to cross birds with family ties. This will lead to a decrease in the weight of adults and to further refinement of the breed. To prevent this, it is best to purchase birds from different breeders.
  3. It is easy to distinguish a male from a female - the male is larger, and there are 2 characteristic scissor-shaped feathers on its wings.
  4. Brood males are usually large in size. They are also highly active and aggressive.
  5. On average, there are 3-4 females per male in the herd.
  6. It is necessary to add young geese to the flock annually. Their number should be about 20% of all males.

In addition to buying the geese themselves, you need to take care of the conditions for their breeding, for this you need:

  • specially equipped poultry house;
  • pasture;
  • water.

What to feed?

Proper nutrition of geese allows them to earn good money later.

The bird's diet should contain:

  • compound feed (feed base);
  • greens (geese eat while walking);
  • root vegetables (rutabagas, potatoes, beets) along with tops;
  • pumpkin, cabbage;
  • silage;
  • reverse with serum;
  • fish waste.

There are features of feeding geese in different time of the year.

Summer feeding rules

In summer, green food is the main part of the diet. The daily norm is 2 kg. You need to feed the geese 2 more times a day outside of grazing.

In the morning and in the evening, you need to give:

  • coarse compound feed (hay, branches);
  • juicy food (vegetables, roots).

Since compound feed is expensive, it can be replaced with cereals with the addition of vitamin and mineral complexes.

Geese prefer:

  • oats;
  • wheat;
  • corn (shredded);
  • rye;
  • barley.

Winter feeding rules

In winter, the basis of the diet is grains:

  • barley;
  • oats;
  • ground corn;
  • millet;
  • wheat bran.

Silage should be given to geese. It contains a lot of nutrients, and it almost completely (in composition) replaces green food for birds.

It is recommended to give hay and pine or spruce needles. There is a lot of vitamin C in the needles, thanks to which the appetite of geese improves, egg production and the quality of eggs increase. Before feeding the geese, the needles need to be dried in a warm room, and then the needles must be collected and twisted in a meat grinder.

Breeding goslings

Geese lay eggs from February to March, laying every other day.

Egg collection rules:

  • it is better to collect eggs immediately after laying;
  • collected eggs must be examined with an ovoscope.

Eggs with the following characteristics are discarded:

  • custom shape, size or colors;
  • double yolk;
  • the yolk is not located in the center of the egg;
  • darkening and spots in the protein.

Egg storage rules before incubation:

  • room temperature 7-13 ºС;
  • indoor humidity 75-80%;
  • lack of drafts and wind;
  • you need to place the egg with the blunt end up;
  • the shelf life is no more than 7 days.

Features of egg incubation:

  • eggs are stored horizontally in the incubator;
  • eggs need to be turned 4 times a day;
  • the egg should not lie on one side for 2 nights in a row;
  • to prevent overheating, eggs should be sprinkled with warm water;
  • the incubation process takes approximately 30 days.

Market description and analysis

Breeding geese - promising direction business. If you organize the processes of growing and marketing correctly, you can make good money on this.

Business advantages:

  1. Goose meat is still considered a delicacy and belongs not to common, but to alternative types of meat.
  2. The share of goose meat in the total volume of poultry meat produced in Russia is less than 1%. In countries with developed poultry farming, the share of goose meat reaches 25%.
  3. Over the past 7 years, there has been an increase in demand for goose meat and liver both from retail chains and from end consumers.
  4. Shipments of goose meat and goose liver from European countries have been frozen due to the sanctions imposed on Russia.

Goose is a practically waste-free "product".

You can sell:

  • meat;
  • eggs;
  • down with feathers;
  • litter;
  • the geese themselves.

The target audience

Goose farm clients can be:

  • supermarkets and restaurants;
  • textile enterprises;
  • homeowners and gardeners;
  • other goose farms;
  • private persons.

The prime cost of goose meat is lower than that of beef, and the sales value exceeds that of pork. Goose liver is a delicious and healthy delicacy, and thanks to its unique composition of nutrients and amino acids, it is very popular among gourmets. Goose eggs are good for making flour dishes.

Down and feathers are popular fillers for pillows, blankets and warm clothing.

Goose droppings are used as fertilizer. The nitrogen content in it is less than in the same chicken, and it is less harmful to plants. The situation when the vegetable garden "burned out" from fertilizer is almost impossible when using goose droppings.

Competitive advantages

The following advantages can be distinguished among competitors:

  • high quality products;
  • no problems with terms and volumes of supplies;
  • low prices when purchasing a large volume of products;
  • organization of a closed production cycle and subsequent deliveries of finished processed product, and not just raw materials.

Advertising campaign

In order for the business to be profitable and profitable, you need to properly organize the sale of products.

  1. Working with shops and retail chains... Promotion of products to the shelves of supermarkets and grocery stores.
  2. Cooperation with manufacturing companies... Supply of meat, eggs, feathers and down to producers as raw materials.
  3. Working with intermediaries. Farmers are often approached by intermediaries who come and offer their services. They take a certain amount of products (most often - all that is) and sell it themselves through their distribution channels.
  4. Internet sales. Website creation and promotion in social networks.
  5. Participation in agricultural exhibitions and fairs.

Step-by-step instructions for opening a farm

It is better to start opening a goose farm with preparation. It is important to determine the goals of the business (what exactly to sell and in what quantity), and the resources available. After that, you can proceed to active action.

To start, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Registration of documents.
  2. Preparation of premises and pastures, creation of conditions for growing.
  3. Purchase of young animals.
  4. Purchase of equipment and consumables.
  5. Raising geese.
  6. Advertising campaign and sales, getting money.

The documents

You need to register an individual entrepreneur and indicate the OKVED code (51.32 for wholesale and 52.22 for retail).

This area of activity is subject to compulsory certification... Therefore, you will additionally need:

  1. Permission to open a farm from the sanitary-epidemiological, veterinary and fire services.
  2. Veterinary certificates in the form No. 1 (for young animals and hatching eggs), No. 2 (for meat and eggs), No. 3 (for down, feathers and droppings).
  3. Certificate of the veterinary welfare of the farm; product certificates (there is a separate certificate for each product). Also, the veterinary service will establish a plan for veterinary procedures.

In addition, you need to be prepared for periodic checks from:

  • Rospotrebnadzor;
  • Rosselkhoznadzor;
  • Rostekhnadzor;
  • fire inspection.

What should be a poultry house

House requirements:

  • the height of the building is at least 1.5 meters;
  • the area is selected at the rate of 1.5 sq. meters of space per bird;
  • the temperature in the poultry house is not lower than +8 ºС;
  • lighting for about 14 hours a day;
  • dry and insulated floor;
  • hay on the floor should be treated with superphosphates to neutralize ammonia emissions;
  • dry and clean bedding;
  • there should be reliable partitions between the geese without gaps and gaps.
  • for elderly birds;
  • for newly hatched chicks;
  • for incubation;
  • for hens.

Equipment and inventory

To run the farm, you need some equipment:

  • separate feeders for ducklings and adults;
  • drinkers;
  • incubator;
  • ovoscope;
  • heating system or heaters;
  • lighting devices.

It is very difficult to breed geese without pasture and reservoir. If there is no reservoir on the territory of the farm, then you will need to create it yourself. Walking outdoors and access to the pond has a positive effect on breeding and weight gain.

Staff

Goose breeding is a specific business that requires certain knowledge and skills. For successful work several different tasks need to be solved, which means at least three employees are required.

Required personnel:

  1. Supervisor. Solves organizational and economic issues, develops a farm development strategy.
  2. Operator. He is engaged in selection of eggs, sorting of chicks, and monitors the incubation process.
  3. Veterinarian. Examines birds and diagnoses their diseases and injuries. Provides treatment and veterinary measures to prevent diseases and mortality of birds.

For the successful operation of the farm, 2-3 employees are needed for 1 thousand heads of poultry.

Financial plan

Calculation of the costs of starting a business and income from the sale of products will show what the profitability of the project is and whether geese breeding as a business is profitable or not.

Video

The video tells how to start breeding geese. The video was filmed by the channel: "Alexander BY".

Of all types of domestic birds, geese can be called the fastest growing. They are quite hardy and capable of not getting sick at all if they are kept in appropriate conditions. Poultry farmers raise geese on their own farm all over the world. They can be successfully fed in green pasture, thereby significantly reducing production costs. Taking into account the rules for breeding and feeding geese, you can count on a successful poultry business. Below are some of the most suitable geese breeds for commercial rearing.

Embden

A very large and tall bird among other breeds, known for its glossy feathers. The eyes are light blue. Originally this breed originated from regions of Germany, but now it is widespread throughout the world. For a gander, the average weight is from 8 to 10 kg, and for a female about 8 kg. This breed is more often than others preferred by foreign poultry breeders for breeding geese for meat.

Chinese

Chinese geese can be divided into two different classes - white and brown. This bird has a pronounced growth on the beak and brown eyes. Chinese geese are considered the noisiest of all breeds and can be heard cackling at a great distance from their habitat. The weight of the male reaches from 5 to 6 kg, of the female from 4 to 4.5 kg.

Sevastopol (Curly) and Toulouse

The Sevastopol breed is easily recognizable by its wavy and disheveled feathers, which make the birds look untidy. They are very often used for decorative and exhibition purposes, and due to the peculiar plumage, the body of this breed seems more round in comparison with others. The weight of males is from 5 to 6 kg, of females from 4.5 to 4.7 kg.

The Toulouse breed is believed to have originated in France and is very similar to the Embden. At least, she almost does not concede to her in weight. But Toulouse is not as popular in Russia in relation to the other breeds mentioned here. The weight of the gander is from 7.5 to 10 kg, the weight of the goose is from 6 to 8 kg. In addition, the fatty liver of the Toulouse breed is very much appreciated, after fattening it reaches a weight of 0.5 kg.

Gorkovskaya (Lindovskaya)

This Russian breed was obtained by crossing Chinese and local geese. From their eastern ancestors, they borrowed a large growth on the beak. This is enough large birds, reaching a weight of 7-8 kg for geese, 6-7 kg for geese. The eyes are blue, the color is white, sometimes grayish. The Lindovskaya breed is very popular among Russian poultry breeders.

How to breed geese?

The best breeding season is between 2 and 8 years of age. After 10 years of age, the rate of egg laying slowly decreases and new flocks of geese are required to hatch. The breeding process can be carried out by the free grazing method. It is best to use 1 healthy goose per 3-4 females for this.

Feeding

In addition to green pasture, you can use a diet in the form of goose food pellets or puree. Feed should be started 3-4 weeks before the fertilized eggs hatch. In addition, vitamin and mineral formulas can be prepared according to the manufacturer's recommendations and directions.

Geese need to have constant access to water from day one. The pond or drinking container must be clean. For this, special containers, basins and gutters are used.

Shelter

The need to have a spacious shelter is critical for geese, especially in winter periods... For optimum bird comfort, a shelter should be built at least 2 square meters per individual (depending on the size of the flock). In addition, the bird's dwelling must be equipped with a water tank and well strengthened from predators. It is important not to restrict the birds for a long time in free grazing, otherwise they will become very anxious.

Four features of keeping a goose

  1. They are very noisy birds, especially during the breeding season.
  2. Geese can live for 20 years.
  3. Geese must be protected from predators such as snakes, foxes, stray dogs
  4. Geese love to mate in the water, so they may need a small deep pond about 3-4 meters in diameter (depending on the size of the flock).

Geese grow very quickly, have a long lifespan and are the most hardy of all domesticated birds. They reach marketable weight without any problems with a little additional food and can practically feed themselves. The bird easily adapts to different climates and it is not surprising that these waterfowl were one of the first species to be domesticated by man.

To profit from keeping geese, you will need an aviary, a large walking area, and bird care. Agree, not too much to start your own business. It should be noted that profit will not be long in coming. Each goose can bring about 8 chickens in 1 season, which will soon grow and be able to give their offspring. Geese breeding as a business does not cause difficulties even for beginners who have not previously kept farm animals, and at the same time, the profitability and return on investment in this industry have always been high. Goose production provides farmers with an opportunity to increase their income and offers a good alternative to chicken, and is also a means of reducing rural poverty. Raising geese for sale can even start with a basic stock of 2 males and 6 females.

How to make money on breeding geese?

For business, the goose is the ideal bird because its waste is widely used. When breeding geese, you can make money not only by selling meat, but also eggs, feathers, droppings, fat, liver, from which restaurants prepare the famous foie gras.

It should be noted that not every goose is suitable for preparing this delicacy. You will need breeds of birds that have been kept and fed according to the appropriate technology and are capable of gaining a large mass of the liver (for example, Toulouse).

Geese are long-livers, which is not so important for raising poultry for meat, but affects the viability of the next generation. It is best to choose several species that will start laying eggs at the age of 2-3 years. This way you can empirically select the breed that suits you best. The cost of this poultry meat is quite high, but in each city it has its own, there is no single indicator. Nevertheless, the price of poultry fillets is always lower than the cost of beef, but at the same time higher than pork.

Another advantage of geese is that they do not require much maintenance. Unlike other poultry, geese have strong immune systems and very rarely get sick, so you are unlikely to have to spend money on medications.

Sometimes aspiring entrepreneurs mistakenly believe that they don't need to write a business plan to start a goose breeding business. However, it is frivolous to think so. Like any other business activity, it requires serious preparation. You need to start by choosing a breed of birds, then determine where they will live and walk. Depending on how much free space is at your disposal and what flock you want to keep, you need to think about hiring assistants and the cost of their salaries. Then you need to calculate how much money you need to spend on goose food every month and how much all the necessary equipment will cost. It is also very important to analyze the markets for goose meat and offal. Only after all these calculations can you get birds. Meat breeds of geese, with proper care, reach a weight of 5 kg in 2.5-3 months. This is the normal weight to start selling a product.

We asked one of the Russian poultry farmers what made him start breeding geese and what difficulties he faces.

The owner of a small poultry farm, Evgeny, says he took up geese because he learned that they can get 90 percent of their nutrition from the fields by eating grass. He adds that his 300 geese love tender, young greens - most grasses (except garden), especially dandelions and clover. Geese can work 4 hectares of field, moving once every three days. Each herd is housed in its own pen surrounded by a sheep fencing, and the “green” diet is supplemented with grain. The breeder also grows oats and radishes for feeding. At night, the geese are housed in a fenced-in courtyard made of wooden posts and netting in the open air. Electric fencing lines are spaced 15 centimeters between rows and 60 centimeters between posts. They protect geese from predators and prevent them from wandering around.

Processing problems

Eugene cannot find a state slaughterhouse that will process geese, it is too difficult to remove a feather in such an amount on his own small farm. Therefore, sales are limited to direct sales of meat from the farm, as well as sales to restaurants. “The reality is that all processing plants with whom we spoke, did not want to have anything to do with waterfowl, and even more so to build their own plant, "- admits the breeder. "Geese have a lot of well-oiled, water-repellent feathers and removing them is hard work."

On an industrial scale, scalding of poultry carcasses occurs at 148 degrees. This is followed by hand plucking, mechanical plucking and waxing. Feathers and down are highly prized and used in bedding and winter clothing, but Evgeny does not have the infrastructure to access this market. This season, he "washed" several tens of kilograms of feathers in a city laundry and dried them in a greenhouse in order to make some blankets.

Goose meat is a delicacy and luxury in many ways. Evgeny sells meat at a price of 350 rubles per 1 kilogram of carcasses and 450 rubles per 1 kilogram of fillets and brisket with delivery to the door. With birds weighing from 4 to 8 kg, a whole goose for a festive table can be easily sold for 1400-2800 rubles. The market is limited, but the poultry farmer is confident he is viable. “In some cases, our prices compete very favorably with other meat products that are sold on the market,” he says, adding that he is looking for customers who want a rich taste and value ecological proposals. “These are people who are willing to invest time and money in preparing special meals. I bring new customers because of their good reviews, and I regularly supply goose meat to the local restaurant. "

Legal obstacles

If you decide to sell goose meat and offal, then be prepared to overcome difficulties with Rospotrebnadzor and the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. To obtain permission to sell products, you need to be registered with the tax authority as an individual entrepreneur, LLC or private household holding, because the sale of meat without certificates is prohibited, and natural person such documents will not be issued. Prepare the goose spot carefully. To pass the test successfully, this must be a closed, warm room, equipped with everything necessary, a reservoir is required nearby. Build a premise in the village or near own home prohibited by Rospotrebnadzor, as geese make a lot of noise and can be aggressive enough to attack small children in a large flock. It is most profitable to rent a former poultry house. There are many abandoned cattle buildings that can be repaired, and it will cost you much less than building a new one.

Documenting

Without appropriate legal documents you will not be able to breed geese for sale. Goose meat and liver are subject to mandatory certification. Therefore, after registering with a tax individual entrepreneur, LLC or private household, prepare to overcome a number of instances.

By registering, you receive Form 4 OGRN, which means that you have been entered into State Register under a specific number and assigned an activity code to your organization. In the case of goose meat, this is code 51.32 ( wholesale meat, poultry, products and canned meat and poultry meat). Based on this document, after checking the compliance of your poultry farm with the requirements, the fire service and Rospotrebnadzor will issue you a paid permission to open. The next instance will be the veterinary service. Goose carcasses are subject to mandatory certification, according to the legislation of the Russian Federation, you cannot just stand behind the counter and sell your products. When contacting the veterinary service, you need to take a certificate of the veterinary welfare of the enterprise (this includes buildings for keeping geese, equipment, grazing places) and a certificate for the product. These official documents give you the right to start working.

Young animals that you will purchase from breeders are also subject to mandatory certification. The best breeding results can only be obtained if the parents meet the breed standards. The main breeding farms in Russia, where you can purchase pedigree goslings, is Lindovsky (address - Nizhny Novgorod Region, Bor), Pyatnitsky (Moscow region, Pyatnitsa city), and Priirtyshsky (Omsk region, Priirtyshie village). They offer a very wide selection of breeds, both Russian and foreign selection. Buying young animals elsewhere cannot guarantee the purity and quality of the geese. The average price for a daily gosling is from 140 to 250 rubles per unit, depending on the breed (2017 prices).

Commercial benefit

As we said, when starting a goose business, it is very important to draw up a business plan to represent the amount of costs and profits, otherwise your business may not be profitable at all, that is, not economically efficient.

Based on the averaged data, we have drawn up an approximate business plan. It is suitable for informational purposes only, and not as an economic document. Before starting your own business, we always advise you to draw up a similar business plan based on real prices in your region. So, approximate costs 1000 geese per plant are as follows:

Purchase or rent of a building with grazing land - 200,000-300,000 rubles;

Repair of construction and purchase of equipment - 150,000-200,000 rubles;

Registration of a package of documents - 15,000-20,000 rubles (the price depends on the region);

Purchase of goslings 1000 units from 140 rubles. for a daily gosling - 140,000 rubles; RUB 250 for a daily gosling of such a breed as Italian (males weigh up to 7 kg) - 250,000 rubles.

Goose compound feed, grain, flour and operating costs (light, heat, etc.) for 1 year - 600,000 -720,000 rubles.

In total, we get that we have to invest 1105,000 - 1,490,000 rubles.

It is not difficult to calculate the income from our goose farm per year. Take a herd of 800 geese and 200 geese. Let's take as the initial data that one female is able to hatch from 6 to 8 goslings per year. When they reach commercial maturity, the income from the sale of their meat will be 500-1000 rubles (depending on the area), from the sale of liver to canned food producers - 500 rubles, fluff for 20 rubles per kilogram.

The income for the year will be approximately from 960,000 to 1,760,000 rubles. It is not yet net profit, after deducting all taxes, you get the lower figure. It is imperative to take into account the unforeseen costs of control checks of various instances and the correction of the deficiencies found. The payback period for a goose enterprise of 1000 heads will be from 1 to 3 years and directly depends on the characteristics of the regional market, the speed of establishing permanent distribution channels. As you can see, the goose farm is not the most profitable business but not unprofitable either.

Poultry Marketing Tricks

Overseas poultry owners say they turn to restaurant chefs to sell goose products. Why don't we also learn from this experience?

Mrs Mathison, a goose farm owner in Auckland, New Zealand, believes it is vital to attract and retain customers so that her prices remain competitive. It tries to increase its market share by selling directly. Mrs Mathison has invested in a market pavilion and a refrigerator that she uses for direct deliveries. “Basically, all restaurants only take goose bosoms and legs, not the whole carcass,” comments Ms. Mathison. Initially, it was difficult for her to sell less expensive parts as well as offal. However, a visit to an oriental restaurant solved this problem. “They were very willing to take offal, including the liver, as well as the legs and necks of the birds. Since then I have found several other Chinese restaurants, although I am not sure exactly how they use the waste. " Almost any restaurant asian food prepares goose meat, and visitors love to order it because it is delicious. Dishes from it are in demand more than from duck.

Mrs. Mathison admits that the commercial side of the business was difficult for her at first, because she did not want to participate in the search for new clients, and she did not know how to do it. “It was very difficult for me to start with cold calls, but I got used to it and now I even like it. This trick worked for me - I gave restaurants and hotels a couple of birds for free to try, and then called them on the phone to see if they wanted to place an order. As soon as they tried my goose meat, most of them started buying it regularly, because everyone is looking for something a little special. "

Private housing and farming is a great combination for those wishing to discover own business... In order to breed geese, it is necessary to provide them with good conditions for keeping and feeding, constantly monitor their development, and monitor the condition of the bird. It is quite possible for beginners to open their own business on breeding geese at home - simplicity, low start-up costs, high profitability make the business attractive.

Geese: breeding, maintenance and care at home

The goose is the first bird that man has tamed. Caring for them is not difficult, but a novice entrepreneur needs to take a responsible approach to organizational issues.

Poultry equipment

For keeping geese at home, a wooden structure or a shed is suitable, while the thickness of the walls should be more than 3 centimeters. Birds should spend most of their day outdoors. They love to nibble grass, and they can consume up to 2 kilograms of greens per day. The cost of the fodder base can be significantly reduced if there is a pasture and a reservoir.

When calculating the area of the house, start from the number of birds. Despite the fact that geese lead a sedentary lifestyle, approximately 1 m² should be allocated for one individual. The height of the walls should not be less than 1.5 meters, you also need to make a passage in the house with a width of 2 meters.

The main requirement for breeding geese at home is the absence of dampness and drafts. Therefore, before buying a livestock, carefully inspect the place of detention, making a small repair (cover up the cracks, insulate the walls).

Geese are resistant to cold snaps and low temperatures, but their feet should not freeze. To do this, keep an eye out for about 30 centimeters of hay bedding.

Old and young individuals, especially those who are not yet 2 weeks old, should be kept separately. To do this, divide the house into two zones.

If breeding is planned, nests should be installed indoors for incubating chicks. There are no special requirements for their placement, but it is advisable to fence them off from each other so that the geese hatching eggs do not see their neighbors in order to avoid conflict. When determining the area of the site, do not forget about the walking area, including it in.

Advice: to increase egg production, the bird needs to be provided with a long stay in the fresh air; for this, special aviaries are equipped. To accommodate them, chicks need less than 1 m² per individual, young animals - 5 m², adults - at least 15 m².

Selection of feed base

The diet for breeding geese at home depends on the type and conditions of detention. Feeding can be wet, dry or combined. The fodder base consists of greens, root crops, cabbage, pumpkin crops, fish waste, whey and silage.

Excessive consumption of greens can lead to intestinal upset and, conversely, a lot of dry grain feed will lead to breathing difficulties. To avoid difficulties, many farmers install feeders with damp sand or shellfish.

As a rule, in the pasture, geese themselves determine useful and dangerous grass. But sometimes they can still be poisoned (for example, nightshades or hemlock). In this case, the sick individual is kept separately from the herd, providing her with plenty of drink.

When breeding geese at home, you need to take into account that an adult eats about 2 kilograms of greens per day. If a novice farmer cannot provide access to grass, you need to feed the bird to the required rate.

Daily diet:

  1. beets, potatoes - 0.5 kg;
  2. carrots - 100 gr.;
  3. hay flour, dust - 150 gr.;
  4. cereals - not less than 70 gr.;
  5. mineral feed - 25 gr.

This list is complemented by concentrated feed.

Geese breeding as a business: where to start and how to succeed

Breeding geese at home is beneficial because the bird has a longer lifespan compared to other poultry. And although they do not die by their death on modern farms, this factor has a good effect on egg production. Within 2-3 years, this indicator does not decrease, but increases by 20%.

What do you need to breed geese at home?

Growing geese at home makes it possible to get not only meat products, but also offal, feathers, down, eggs and organic fertilizers that can be used to grow plants. Goose liver - foie gras, which cost is very high, is very much appreciated. Many people grow special breeds of geese at home for the sake of obtaining delicious fatty liver.

To open a small farm you will need:

  1. own or leased land plot;
  2. place for keeping geese;
  3. food base;
  4. incubator for incubating eggs.

Since the goose is a waterfowl, it is desirable to have a reservoir near the place of their keeping.

After purchasing all the components, it is necessary: to decide on the methods of selling meat, registering a business, whether by-products, fluff, eggs will be sold. Novice farmers are looking for distribution channels among neighbors and acquaintances. In this case, there is no need to issue permits.

Assuming to sell regular lots of meat to intermediaries or sell it yourself on the market, it is necessary to collect a package of permits:

  • veterinary books;
  • opening a farm or small business.

The above list is required for the sale of meat and offal. Markets do not accept products for sale without official documents.

Breeding geese at home - which can be organized even by a novice entrepreneur without experience and special knowledge. Birds are unpretentious when keeping and feeding, quickly adapt to a new place, have good immunity.

It is possible to build a business for breeding geese at home in two directions - selling meat or breeding. As a rule, most farms try to combine these directions.

Advice: Do not underestimate the role of a business plan when raising geese at home. Any business requires an analysis of competition, assessing demand, calculating costs and payback periods.

Breed selection

The profitability of the business will depend on the breed you choose. In this aspect, the opinions of experts differ, but each of them advises novice farmers to grow several species at once to minimize risks.

Domestic poultry houses most often breed the following breeds at home:

  • The Kholmogory breed is one of the most large breeds, the weight of the goose is 10 kilograms, of the female - 8. The egg production of the goose varies within 40 eggs per year.
  • The large gray breed has a compacted physique, the weight of an adult male is 8 kilograms, of a female - 6. A female lays about 40 eggs a year.
  • The Arzamas breed shows resistance to temperature extremes, is distinguished by stable immunity, excellent taste of meat and a relatively low weight (up to 7 kilograms);
  • Legart is a meat breed of broilers, very beneficial in keeping, as it consumes 20% less feed than ordinary geese. At the same time, it is intensively gaining weight - at 2 months, the chick weighs about 6 kilograms.
  • The Toulouse breed is a breed that is bred to obtain a tender foie gras liver. The geese are very fatty, weighing 10-12 kilograms.
  • Kuban geese are a light, mobile and noisy type, the weight of an adult does not exceed 5-6 kilograms. At the same time, the level of egg production is one of the highest - 90 pieces per year.
  • Linda is a meat-oriented breed. On average, a gander weighs 12 kilograms, a goose - 10.

Establishing distribution channels

It is easy to find an intermediary (reseller) in the countryside. You can establish distribution channels through restaurants, shops, farmers markets, supermarkets and catering establishments.

Many aspiring entrepreneurs are selling online. You don't have to spend money to create an expensive website for this. You can post ads on free message boards and sell small batches (from 10 carcasses per hand).

Despite the simplicity of raising geese at home, some difficulties can be expected for aspiring entrepreneurs. Most of them are related to the spread of diseases. To prevent this from happening, you need to monitor the cleanliness of the room and the aviary, ventilate the place where the bird is kept. Experienced farmers advise:

  1. buy chicks only from trusted reputable farms;
  2. to breed a large number of geese (from 500) at home, it is important to register with all regulatory authorities, open an individual entrepreneur or LLC;
  3. in order to reduce the cost of purchasing young animals, you need to leave a certain number of birds for breeding;
  4. the house must be carefully treated and disinfected to avoid disease;
  5. on the second day, the goslings are given a weak solution of potassium permanganate with glucose for general strengthening;
  6. the first two months, it is necessary to give the chicks drugs to increase immunity - biovit, kormogrizin, etc.

Geese breeding as a business: profitable or not?

You can sell not only meat, but also feathers, down, offal, eggs, which will increase income. The advantage of breeding geese at home is that it is waste-free. Even droppings are sold as organic fertilizers.

Breeding geese at home is a business that deserves the attention of domestic entrepreneurs. Its relevance increases during a crisis, when demand for food products alone does not decrease. To open a small farm, it is enough to own or lease a land plot, equipped premises and feed base... The start-up investments made in the business, with a competent organization, pay for themselves already in the first year of operation and make it possible to increase the scale of the project.

Raising geese as a business is practically a waste-free business, the profit from which is obtained from the sale of meat, eggs, down and feathers. In this article, we will tell you how to properly organize such a business, how much you need to spend on it and how much you can get. Calculations will be made for 50 animals. Geese farming as a business
We build a barn and buy goslings

The most important thing that should be present on your territory is a geese shed. You need to calculate the area of the building based on the number of heads. So, in the barn there must be:
Heated compartment for chicks (1m2 for 20 goslings)
Unheated compartment for adult geese (1m2 for 5 heads)
Upland nests (1 nest for 2-3 geese)
Outdoor aviary (3m2 for 1 bird)
After three years, the geese expire and are slaughtered for meat. Therefore, when purchasing 50 goslings, you need to be prepared for the fact that after 3 years in the barn you will need a place for 150 geese. With simple calculations, we get that we need a shed of 35m2 and an open-air cage of 450 m2. The construction of such a barn will cost about 100,000 rubles.

For the aviary, you will need a chain-link mesh, it will cost another 20,000 rubles. Arrangement of a barn (heating, lighting, arrangement) - another 40,000 rubles. It turns out that the creation of primary conditions for growing geese will cost 160,000 rubles.
Purchase 50 goslings per average price 370 rubles will cost 18,500 rubles. It turns out that you need to invest in a business about 180,000 rubles.

Calculation and purchase of feed

The best goose food is fresh green grass. But for home growing use freshly cut grass with an admixture of carrots, pumpkin, cabbage, potatoes. The average daily diet for a goose, which is raised for slaughter, is 2 kg.
It's good if there is an opportunity to feed the goose with all this from your garden. The purchase will cost about 500 rubles for one goose per month. It turns out that the first year we spend about 25,000 rubles, in the second year the livestock doubles - 50,000 rubles, the third - 75,000 rubles.

Profit making process

In a business like raising geese, profit is made in three ways:
Selling eggs
Sale of meat
Sale of down and feathers
If you wish, you can sell chicks, but we are considering a business without this income point.

Selling eggs

So, as for the eggs, the goose brings an average of 40 eggs per year. For the resumption of our livestock, we will need to keep 50 eggs annually. The rest can be sold. Usually, geese are purchased in a ratio of 1 goose to 3 geese, that is, on average, we will have about 37 geese.
They will bring 1480 eggs annually, of which 1430 can be traded. The average cost of a dozen goose eggs is 150 rubles. The annual profit from the sale of this product is 214,500 rubles.

Sale of feathers and down

Geese molt twice a year, while a young goose gives 160 grams of down and feather per year, and an adult - 270 (80 of them - down). That is, in the first year we receive 8 kg of goods from 50 heads, in the second year - 21.5 kg, in the third and subsequent years - 35 kg.
You can sell this product for 1000 rubles per 1 kg. The profit in the first year is 8,000 rubles, the second - 21,500, the third and subsequent years - 35,000 rubles.

Sale of meat

For three years, feathers with down and eggs are collected from geese. After this time, the geese begin to rush badly, so after 3 years they are sold for meat. The goose grows up to 10 kg, and the goose - up to 8. When purchasing 50 heads of geese, you need to be prepared for the fact that profits from the sale of meat will begin to come only in the third year, and then every year 50 heads of geese will bring about 426 kg of pure meat. In monetary terms, this is almost 213,000 rubles (500 rubles per 1kg).

Calculations

1 year. In the first year, you need to be prepared for a small profit, since the “harvest” itself is not numerous and the sale of meat has not yet been carried out. Income in the first year from 50 heads will be 222,500 rubles, and profit - 197,500 rubles.
2 years. In the second year, income will rise quite a bit due to an increase in the volume of fluff, but the profit will be less than in the previous year due to an increase in food costs. After all, you will now have 100 geese, instead of 50. Income will be 236,000 rubles, profit - 186,000 rubles.
3 years. Income and profit at this and subsequent stages will amount to 462,500 rubles, and profit - 387,500 rubles.

Conclusion

Having spent 205,000 rubles for the construction of a goose-house, the purchase of chicks and their rearing, you will recoup your investment in the first year. Moreover, the profit at this stage will be equal to the average wages in small and medium-sized cities. After three years from the founding of the business, you will have already reached the average monthly income of a metropolitan resident. And to expand the economy in the future or not is up to you to decide.

Agriculture has always been considered not only an excellent platform for growing certain crops, but also a space for doing business. Yes, you can start your own business not only by opening boutiques in huge cities. Geese breeding as a business is considered a great project for beginners who dream of doing a profitable business.

However, before proceeding to active actions, preparing land, purchasing birds, it is necessary to consider whether such an investment of money and effort is profitable or not. Despite the fact that the usual rearing of geese is not a huge hassle, you need to prepare properly for breeding birds. It will take a lot of effort to get the maximum benefit from this case. You can find out how the preparation for breeding geese takes place by watching the video or reading the article below.

What can a goose "offer"?

It is possible to understand what breeding geese as a business can offer a person only by understanding the origin and characteristics of bird life. It should be noted in advance that such a business project is unlikely to bring a lot of profit. This is due to the fact that birds need constant supervision and good equipment, despite being easy to keep. The owner must not only constantly control the life of the birds, but also invest in the purchase of equipment for breeding them. Without these two points, you should not expect financial well-being.

In addition to equipment and the availability of free time, an entrepreneur should know about the love of geese for fresh air and pastures, therefore providing them with their own or rented walking area is extremely necessary. Success in the goose business is possible only after acquiring several hectares of meadow or any wasteland. By providing birds with the listed benefits, various positives can be achieved.

  1. Get enough meat to sell, which is what makes the most of your profit. Even if you can't build a business on goose eggs, the meat can start bringing money after 2 months from grazing. 1 hectare of pasture, on average, provides a person with two tons per year.
  2. Protect yourself from buying freezing equipment and expired food storage. This is possible due to the length of the geese grazing season and the fact that harvesting takes place throughout the season, gradually meeting demand.
  3. Start selling meat at a higher price than it is done in small farming.
  4. Start selling goose liver, which is considered not only an exquisite delicacy, but also a quality healing product. Foie gras or goose pâté are even more expensive and worthwhile. Due to the demand for a similar product, breeding geese as a business is considered profitable business... Some farmers specifically buy exclusively "liver" breeds in order to fatten them and get high-quality liver. Foie gras are excellently stored at home due to the possibility of canning and transportation.
  5. Make a profit with goose down, which is considered an excellent and valuable industrial product. They insulate their clothes, and the price is much more attractive than the cost of similar goods. By the way, you should look for possible candidates for the purchase of fluff when planning a goose farm as a business.

A worthy advantage of geese is considered their resistance to diseases and the ability to consume any type of feed, therefore, thinking about farming, it is necessary to give preference to breeding geese, so as not to spend money on financial insurance against diseases.

Requirements for growing poultry

It is difficult to answer the question of whether or not to raise geese, because it is almost impossible to find a definite answer. Experienced poultry farmers believe that geese breeding can only be afforded by a person who is not only versed in agriculture but also has profitable business generating income. For beginners, according to professionals, breeding will seem difficult. However, why not take a chance? The goose breeding business will be possible after the basic requirements are met.

  1. Acquisition of a large, high-quality heated premises. It is advisable that the goose farm be equipped with an insulated floor. To breed geese, a room equal to 150 sq. m per 1000 birds. Heating is an unusually necessary criterion for growing, because if the limbs and beak are frostbitten, the bird will lose its commercial qualities and will not provide the necessary “exit”. It will not work to breed geese in a barn because of the large size of the bird and the need for a production permit from special sanitary authorities, veterinarians, and the fire service. A goose farm cannot be considered such without permission from the authorities.
  2. Registration of an individual as an individual entrepreneur.
  3. Providing birds with a reservoir of 200 sq. m, where the birds will be provided with grass and water. If there are no such ponds in the village or in the selected area, then you will have to spend energy and money on digging and filling it.
  4. The location of the goose farm away from settlements and its homes due to the aggressiveness of the birds and their noisy and loud behavior. Raising geese should take place away from children, because irritated birds can peck a child or even a person to death.
  5. Providing birds with a sufficient amount of insulated bedding, feeders, nests, incubators, drinkers. The manufacture of feeders and drinkers can be done independently at home to save money.
  6. Search for factories specializing in compound feed. In the summer, costs are reduced due to constant grazing and visiting lakes and ponds.

You can implement a business idea for breeding geese after acquiring or renting an abandoned poultry house, cowshed. By the way, the repair and restoration of abandoned buildings with disrupted communications is much cheaper than building from scratch. In addition, a goose farm on the site of another poultry house proves that the selected site is suitable. More than one video tells and shows how the right goose farms look like.

Breed selection

The breed of bird largely determines how successful a business will be, and therefore the plan should include careful selection of the breed. Geese differ in the purpose and place of breeding, in what weather conditions this or that bird will be forced to live. In addition, it is necessary to start a breeding business with a solution to the issue of regular offspring.

Geese are considered unimportant "mothers", and a goose egg cannot be incubated in a built incubator. Up to 7 eggs are placed under 1 brooding bird. Buying a branded incubator in this case is justified, however, you only need to choose models with a large capacity, for which the purchase of domestic incubators is better suited.

Based on the described physiological characteristics of birds, farmers recommend growing large gray species, after which they can be supplemented with common Kholmogory ones. Birds are suitable for breeding because of good incubation and hatching of young stock, as well as due to their endurance and resilience. A goose farm in the south may consist of Gorky and Romny geese, and in the temperate zone it is better to breed Ural geese.

Opening a goose farm: standards and requirements

When drawing up a breeding plan, you need to prepare yourself in advance for passing and filling out a huge amount of papers and certificates. Since goose and foie gras are considered products in need of certification, you will definitely visit more than one relevant authority. Therefore, before you start making a profit, you will have to visit several instances.

  1. Tax office where registration takes place individual entrepreneur... Be sure to indicate the type of your activity, in this case it is the sale of meat, eggs, etc. After that, a special certificate will be provided, which serves as the main document for further procedures.
  2. Rospotrebnadzor and the fire service, which need to provide a previously received document, acquire a permission to open.
  3. Veterinary service. Birds must be certified, because home-grown goose meat cannot be sold without documents, even in the markets. Veterinarians will provide you with several documents, including a certificate and a veterinary certificate stating that the enterprise is safe and contains necessary equipment, attributes and grounds.

It will be possible to breed geese only after the ready-made package of documents, and a plan for the veterinary activities carried out was approved with veterinarians. Very often it is at the stage of paperwork that many entrepreneurs ask themselves the question: "Is breeding really so profitable?" In the case of renting a room for a rooster, it is unlikely that it will be possible to get a certificate, the same applies to the purchase of young animals not from trusted suppliers.

Poultry certification takes place immediately, but your birds need to be certified again afterwards. It is not always profitable to buy young animals from unverified suppliers at a pleasant price, because they were mainly prepared for fattening. Growing them will bring nothing but losses and waste of time. Due to the difficulties that appear at the certification stage, it is not necessary to immediately start forming your own breeding herd - you should limit yourself to rearing. When the plan has already "worked out", you can proceed to the independent formation of your own herd of breeding geese. Finding suppliers is quite problematic, since there are only a few factories in Russia. The purchase can be carried out in Pyatnitsky, Priirtyshsky and Lindovsky. When making any bird purchases, it is important to carefully consider all existing quality certifications and standards.

About commercial prospects

Engage in calculations and compilation a sample business plan quite convenient both at home and in the office. The following data are only indicative of the commercial prospects for growing:

  • the purchase of premises will have to spend more than one ruble, on average it costs up to 300 thousand rubles;
  • it is possible to repair and provide equipment for a ready-made gooseneck within 200 thousand rubles;
  • to issue a document, on average, it is possible for 20 thousand or more rubles;
  • you can buy young animals from 1000 heads in the range of 10-50 rubles apiece, ready-to-feed costs up to 50 thousand rubles;
  • expenses for feed and other expenses will amount to 800 thousand rubles.

Growing geese requires an initial investment of 1 million rubles or more. Calculating the income that a herd of 1000 heads, including 800 geese, can give, we get about 1.5 million rubles. (including the sale of liver, fluff, feathers, eggs). If there are geese weighing 4 kg or more on the farm, it will be possible to sell them for 600-1200 rubles, and down and feathers are suitable for ateliers and industries. In addition, one must remember about constant checks and unexpected situations on which you will have to spend part of the profit.

The subtleties of feeding and keeping birds

The maintenance and feeding of birds does not present any particular difficulties and is described in detail in almost every reference book. The only thing that is important and must be remembered is the love of birds for dense meals, greens, juicy food and liquids. Getting a high income also depends on how often the goose herds are grazed. It is better to use "stalls" exclusively in industry, raising birds for canned food or for feeding birds for future cooking on the table.

Thus, it cannot be said that breeding geese is extremely profitable, but this business cannot be called unprofitable. If the goose farm meets all standards and requirements, as well as produces high-quality meat and products, there is no need to talk about losses. Using serious approach to the point, carefully doing the calculations, it will be easy to provide yourself with a stable income, even at home. Goose farm as a business is profitable and promising!
