NASA astronomers have presented their own view of our planet: thanks to a satellite that was recently launched, they were able to show with unprecedented clarity how the Earth looks at night. The NASA website noted that the ultra-sensitive equipment, in addition to the "glow" of cities, captured the torches of oil and gas fields and the lights of ships at night.

A satellite called "Suomi NPP", which has a super sensitive radiometer "VIIRS" was launched last year. He circled our planet as many as 312 times in order to take pictures of all the islands and every section of the continents. 
"Reuters" clarifies that the pictures that were taken in October and April of this year in cloudless weather were compared with frames forty years ago; famous photographs of the planet, taken by "Apollo 17" and called "blue marble". The current nighttime photographs of the planet have been dubbed "black marble".

The Earth has been photographed from satellites for forty years, and not only for the purpose of weather forecasting. Nevertheless, "Suomi NPP" was the first device designed to take photographs at night.
Asia and Australia at night
Steve Miller, an employee who directly works with the Suomi NPP satellite, noted that "the Earth must be observed not only in the daytime, but also at night." Miller also noted that "Our planet, unlike us, never sleeps."

NASA noted that the "glow" of the lights of the night Earth is extremely uneven: "In some places the city glows like a huge cluster of galaxies, in others it is something that resembles a lone star in the night sky."

The illuminated navigable rivers are amazingly beautiful, for example, the Nile stands out most strongly against the general background. In addition, at night from space it is clear that humanity is still limited by the landscapes of nature. "Black marble" made it possible to discern some of the political problems of the world. As the authors explain, in the frames of the South and North Korea contrast quite sharply, and in the Middle East one can clearly see clusters of flares from oil and gas developments.

"Suomi NPP" has already been tested in meteorology: the apparatus gave scientists the opportunity to see from space Hurricane Sandy, which hit the east coast of the United States on October 29. In addition, the satellite captured the impact of the elements; in the early days of the hurricane, millions of people lost electricity, night lights became significantly smaller.

Even the birds do not see such an Earth. Only astronauts can see all the greatness and beauty of our planet. Photos that are created with the help of professional equipment can truly surprise. All photographs were taken, which makes the appearance of our planet even more fabulous and even fantastic.
Most big cities planets amaze with an abundance of lights. In the middle of a dark space, which is completely immersed in the darkness of the night, the cities look like giant lanterns of bizarre shapes and with an unusual pattern. It is simply amazing how much energy humanity produces, because at night literally the entire space of an unlit planet turns into a scattering of bright lights and huge areas of lights. People literally changed the surface of the planet beyond recognition. A few centuries ago, this was simply impossible to see.
Next, you can see photos of the night cities of the world from space. The pictures are so accurate and detailed that it is quite possible that you can find the place where you live, or the places you once were. In some pictures you can distinguish not only roads and neighborhoods, but even individual houses. Some cities look like real chaos and a crazy interweaving of streets, while others seem to be built according to strict blueprints. Some look like smooth circles with a bright center, while others look like random blobs or lines stretched along the coast.

2. Milan, Italy, February 22, 2011. The lights of Milan are reminiscent of a checkered fabric pattern. Bright white lights - the historic center of the city, where the Milan Cathedral is located. The dark areas in the north are fields separating small towns. Due to low clouds, some areas look washed out. Milan is the largest city in Italy and the fifth largest in the European Union. It is one of Europe's transport, commercial and industrial centers and a global center of fashion and culture. The surface of the water reflects the bright light of the full moon. At the time the photo was taken, the ISS was over Luxembourg. Astronauts often take photographs in which moonlight reflected off the surface of the Earth is directed directly at them. 9. Brasilia, Brazil, January 8, 2011 From orbit, the capital of Brazil cannot be confused with another city day or night. It is located on a plateau in the west-central part of the country and is considered one of the finest examples of urban planning of the 20th century. One of distinctive features city, when viewed from above, is the silhouette of a bird (or plane, or butterfly) moving from the northwest to the southeast. In the 1960s, other settlements began to grow around the city, and satellite cities soon appeared near the capital. 11. India-Pakistan border, August 21, 2011. On the Indo-Gangetic plain, out of hundreds of luminous spots, the largest are Islamabad (Pakistan) and New Delhi (India). These cities are located at a distance of about 700 km from each other. The roads connecting big cities. To the north (on the left side of the image) are the cloud-covered Himalayas.
